An off-duty police officer from Wellston, Ohio, tragically lost his life in the early hours of last Saturday following an accident involving a golf cart and a vehicle. According to ABC6, Matthew Juniper, 25, succumbed to his injuries after the golf cart he was a passenger in was struck by a 2014 Hyundai. The crash occurred on South Pennsylvania Avenue near Sixth Street in Jackson County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the collision happened around 2 a.m., when an unnamed juvenile driving the Hyundai hit the registered golf cart from behind. As a result of the impact, the golf cart veered off the road and collided with a tree. The driver of the cart, Brant Derrow, 40, also of Wellston, suffered serious injuries and was subsequently airlifted to a West Virginia hospital. The juvenile driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, as indicated by a report by WHIO.
