After a long hiatus, the West Village is once again buzzing with the reopening of RedFarm. Two years after being closed due to a fire, RedFarm is serving up its full menu at the original location at 529 Hudson Street. Not just a return, but a revival, the restaurant is back to dishing out its renowned Chinese offerings, as reported by NY Eater.
The spot had been operating in a "soft opening" phase during the summer, limited by a gas shutdown. Now, customers can rejoice as the full spread, including Crispy Beef, Ed's Pastrami Egg Rolls, and the assortment of more than a dozen signature dumplings like the beloved Pac-Man dumplings are back on the table, according to Cititour. A noteworthy addition, guests can now venture below to Decoy, RedFarm's cocktail lounge, open from Thursday to Saturday offering a variety of drinks and snacks.
While the return of classic dishes is a significant allure for patrons, Decoy promises to reintroduce its "full-format duck feasts" in the coming weeks, a mouthwatering announcement for the Peking Duck enthusiasts. Stepping inside RedFarm, customers will find that the atmosphere retains the spirited farmhouse design, complete with a collection of vintage water pitchers and the quirky wine box decor, elements that honor the memory of founder Ed Schoenfeld who passed away in 2022.
The beverage program, now energized by an array of fresh cocktails along with low-ABV and zero-proof options, is under the direction of veteran Shawn Chen. RedFarm's standing as one of New York City's modern Chinese culinary delights endures, with a veteran staff that has been with the restaurant since it opened, "continues through a veteran staff that’s been with the restaurant since day one," as remarked in a Cititour interview.
