Westland firefighters responded to a major blaze at Woodview Apartments earlier today, prompting a large-scale emergency operation near Central City Parkway and Warren Road.
The fire, reported around 5 a.m., caused significant damage to the apartment complex. According to the Westland Fire Department, the top floor was fully engulfed, and several units were already burning when crews arrived. Flames were actively compromising the building’s structural integrity, but despite the severity of the fire, firefighters were able to extinguish it and contain the damage to a portion of the structure, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
No casualties were reported; however, according to a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit, Westland Fire Chief Darrell Stamper confirmed, "We lost eight units," highlighting the level of residential damage caused by the fire. The Red Cross is currently providing assistance to those displaced by the incident.
The aftermath of the incident was evident in the blocked-off streets filled with emergency vehicles, along with footage captured by a local resident and shared through WXYZ, which illustrated the scale of the fire.
