Early Monday morning in north Houston’s Greenspoint area, a 53-year-old woman in a wheelchair was hit and killed at the intersection of Greenspoint Drive and North Sam Houston Parkway East. The driver left the scene but stopped about a third of a mile away and waited "an extensive period of time" before calling 911 and returning, as reported by KHOU. Police are investigating the case as a possible hit-and-run. The woman was reported to be homeless and known to frequent the area,
Authorities said the woman had been hit by a car before, and HPD is collecting video evidence while working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to decide on possible charges. The 22-year-old driver of a white Cadillac said he had a green light, but there were no witnesses to confirm this.
Sgt. Rose said, "We do not know who's at fault for this crash at this time," according to ABC13. The driver was cleared of driving while impaired, and HPD is asking anyone with information to contact their Vehicular Crimes Division as the investigation continues.
