Sgt. John Banner, a seasoned officer with the White Settlement Police Department, has been recognized for his exemplary service with two prestigious awards at a recent City Council meeting. The accolades celebrate his courage and quick thinking in two separate incidents that could have spelled disaster for the community.
The first honor, the Medal of Valor, was bestowed upon Sgt. Banner for his decisive actions during a high-stakes encounter last November. According to a social media post from White Settlement Police Department, Banner's leadership culminated in the apprehension of an armed suspect bearing multiple firearms and explosive devices, who had the intention to harm people in North Texas. His demeanor during the perilous showdown showcased a supreme level of valor, which Chief Cook emphasized while presenting the department's second-highest award.
The second commendation, a City Council Honorable Service and Mention, was awarded to Sgt. Banner's swift response to a July fire at a local motel. He was instrumental in ensuring that individuals were safely evacuated from the danger, an act that Mayor Faron Young praised during the presentation ceremony.
