Earlier today in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, a woman was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer that fled the scene. The incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. as the woman was crossing Eastern Parkway at Schenectady Avenue. Gothamist reports that the NYPD is currently searching for the driver of the 18-wheeler that continued eastbound after the impact.
According to emergency medical workers, the woman was pronounced dead upon their arrival at the scene. While her identity has not been disclosed, pending family notification. Authorities are combing through surveillance footage to determine the make, model, and license plate of the truck involved, as per ABC7 New York.
The incident is part of the total number of pedestrian traffic collisions within the NYPD’s 71st Precinct, which has exceeded 70 cases from the beginning of the year through September 14, surpassing the previous year’s count, as reported by Gothamist.
