A tragic incident unfolded in west Harris County on Tuesday evening as a domestic squabble escalated fatally. According to Click2Houston, deputies responded to a call from the 6000 block of Diantha Street where a woman reported shooting her husband during a fight, the situation occurred near Katy, in an otherwise quiet residential area.
When authorities arrived, they found the man injured, but despite efforts from EMS and deputies, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the incident involved a serious dispute between a couple that ended in tragedy. A child was in the home during the incident but was not harmed and is now with family members, as reported by Click2Houston.
Continuing the probe into these somber events, KHOU reported that the woman has been cooperative with investigators. Sgt. Michael Richie of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Division indicated that the wife called 911 to report a verbal and physical altercation with her husband leading to the fatal shooting.
Details about past issues between the couple are still unclear. Sgt. Richie said there may have been previous police involvement. Detectives are now reviewing evidence, speaking with the woman and family members, and checking for any video footage to see if this was a one-time event or part of an ongoing problem. The case will go to a grand jury to decide whether it was an act of self-defense, as stated by KHOU. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues and detectives prepare to present their findings to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
