Beer enthusiasts in Michigan received an early treat as Yuengling, the storied Pennsylvania brewery, commenced distribution of its packaged beers in select metro Detroit stores. According to a WXYZ report, the drop date was set a week prior to its anticipated schedule, a delight for those eager to get their hands on some of America's oldest brewery produce.
The early distribution was a significant moment for both the company and its distributors, with excitement to potentially tap into a market that's clearly been thirsting for Yuengling's varieties. "This launch is not only a milestone for Michigan beer lovers, but also a defining moment in my career," Jamie Wanty-Keeder, vice president of marketing at O&W, Inc., told FOX 2 Detroit. O&W, one of the three wholesalers for Yuengling in the state, highlighted the pre-sale figures which nearly reached 40,000 cases before Monday's release, indicating the pent-up demand for these brews.
Residents and visitors now can find four distinct Yuengling offerings on shelves: Traditional Lager, Light Lager, Black & Tan, and Yuengling Flight. "You’ve been asking. You’ve been tagging. Even road-tripping across state lines. Now, we’re coming to you," Tom Junod, director of business development at Yuengling Brewery, said in statements collected by both WXYZ and Metro Times. This message resonates with Michigan residents who had previously shown their eagerness for the brand through social media and other means.
While the beers are currently available in areas around Detroit, Ann Arbor, and East Lansing, a full statewide distribution is expected to be completed by next summer. The rollout comes just in time for the big football game on September 13, with O&W jokingly referring to it as "Michigan's biggest beer launch in history," in an interview with Metro Times. The distributor also reported impressive initial sales, with nearly 500 account purchase selections and about 2,300 kegs in the Detroit area alone. For those looking to locate Yuengling near them, a beer-finder feature is available at the brewery's official website.
