An 18-year-old woman lost her life on Florida's Turnpike in Lake County after her vehicle collided with a tow truck this past Saturday night. The fatal incident, which involved a young driver at the wheel of a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV, occurred near mile marker 291 around 9:44 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. ClickOrlando provides details from an FHP crash report stating that a 53-year-old Ocala man was at the controls of the tow truck, a 2024 Hino, which merged from the outside shoulder back into the lane, where the collision with the Mustang occurred. The tow truck was partially utilising both the outside lane and the outside shoulder before the merge.
Both the deceased and the tow truck driver were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, as reported by officials. Notably, the tow truck driver did not sustain any injuries from the crash and cooperated with authorities on site, remaining present throughout the initial investigation phase.
