Nineteen people were injured yesterday morning in a collision involving two MTA buses in Flushing, Queens. According to CBS New York, the accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near Sanford Avenue and Bowne Street during what was described as a stormy commute, though it has not been confirmed if adverse weather played a role in the incident.
The crash involved two Q27 buses, where one bus, strikingly white, rear-ended the blue one, leading to the blue bus being pushed forward a significant distance. The impact caused damage to its left rear corner, while the white bus veered into oncoming traffic — this scene was captured in video footage from the location, Patch reports. Among those injured were 18 passengers, and a driver, with 14 requiring hospitalization, yet no criminality is suspected at this stage.
Following the rush-hour incident, MTA operations were adjusted, with buses on the Q13, Q26, Q27, and Q65 routes redirected, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The changes temporarily affected service for commuters in the area.
Authorities are actively investigating the crash. While the conditions of the injured have not been fully detailed, initial reports indicate no life-threatening injuries. Additional information has not yet been released, and the incident remains under investigation.
