
A tragic collision claimed the life of a 25-year-old cyclist in Westland today. As reported by WWJ Newsradio, the crash occurred early in the morning, around 6 a.m., at the intersection of Warren Road and Wayne Road. The cyclist was struck by a rented Penske truck while attempting to head south across Wayne Road. Despite the authorities' efforts to save the man at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries.
Westland Police have disclosed that the truck driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators. As of this writing, it has not been determined who was at fault for the collision. Local 4, as reported by ClickOnDetroit, observed a bicycle in the middle of the crosswalk, but details surrounding the deadly incident remain limited.
Following the incident, the Westland Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team closed off the intersection to conduct their investigation, which subsequently led to traffic disruptions. According to FOX 2 Detroit, the area has since been reopened to the commuters. Police were also seen taking photographs inside the box truck parked near the crash site, indicating a thorough investigation is underway.
