A 51-year-old man has died following a collision while operating an electric scooter in Kalihi, marking the latest traffic fatality in the area. According to a report by KHON2, the Honolulu Police Department stated that the incident happened on October 4 at about 7:48 p.m., when the man lost control and collided with a stanchion on North King Street.
The collision resulted in the man being propelled onto a raised center median. As to exactly how he came to lose control remains unclear, investigators said. Notably, he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Following the crash, the man was taken in critical condition to the hospital by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services.
KITV confirmed that the Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office pronounced the man dead this morning. This incident has raised Oahu's traffic fatality toll to 67 this year, a significant increase compared to the 35 fatalities recorded at the same time in 2024.
