An 82-year-old man from Waukesha was killed after his pickup truck was struck by a train yesterday morning in Mukwonago. The collision occurred around 9:25 a.m. at the train crossing on Bay View Road, according to reports from TMJ4.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, received an alert on his cell phone prior to the crash, which was seen by his family who arrived at the scene thereafter. Village of Mukwonago police informed FOX6 News of this detail. The crossing where the incident took place was closed for over four hours as emergency teams worked on the site.
There was no apparent damage to the crossing gate, a fact that complicates the understanding of how the collision occurred. The specific cause is still under investigation, as law enforcement officials have yet to determine the series of events that led to the fatal encounter, reported WISN.
Footage from the accident scene was captured by TMJ4's Waukesha County photojournalist, Jeff Morris. The video, showing a stopped train and the wrecked truck, was soon after broadcast as part of the coverage on the incident. The train involved was a southbound Canadian National Railroad train, a detail confirmed by multiple local news sources.
