A 9-year-old child in Cudahy was hit by a vehicle this morning and the suspected driver, an 89-year-old Milwaukee woman, is now in police custody, facing charges related to the hit-and-run incident. According to CBS 58, the collision occurred around 8 a.m. as the child was on their way to JE Jones Elementary School near the intersection of Swift and Ramsey avenues.
The young victim suffered multiple injuries in the crash and was promptly transported for medical treatment to Children's Wisconsin; FOX 6 Now reports that after fleeing the scene, the elderly driver of the vehicle was later detained by Cudahy police officers who also recovered the motor vehicle involved in the accident, an investigation is currently ongoing and criminal charges are expected to be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
As detailed by WISN, the child, identified as Lenci Lamberg, was making their way to school when the incident unfolded, and was aided at the scene by the Cudahy Fire Department before being taken to the hospital. Following the event, the Cudahy police succeeded in locating the suspect, who remains unnamed, and took her into custody on charges of hit-and-run causing injury.
