Adam Beckerink, the husband of the late Caitlin Tracey who was found dead nearly a year ago under mysterious circumstances in her South Loop condo, has been sentenced in a Michigan courtroom for domestic abuse in an unrelated case.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, Beckerink entered a no-contest plea to the charges of domestic abuse and violating a no-contact order in August; now, his sentence totals 93 days in jail for the two counts, served concurrently he will begin to serve his sentence immediately, observed by the court on Monday – and for an additional count of interfering with electronic communication, the sentence extends to two years of probation starting the same day.
Moreover, Beckerink's curfew has been set from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with strict regulations concerning alcohol, THC, and stipulated drug testing as terms of his probation period. While, notably, he has not been pegged with any charges connected to Tracey’s death, court documents cited by FOX 32 Chicago describe two previous police calls to Tracey's Michigan home in 2024, including one in which she purportedly suffered visible injuries and accused Beckerink of assault and theft.
Delving further into the court proceedings, ABC 7 Chicago reports considerable emotional weight was present during the sentencing as Tracey's mother delivered a compelling 15-minute impact statement; the courtroom was notably filled with friends and family of Tracey, and Beckerink stated that he has been unable to grieve for his wife due to the necessity to "protect himself" amidst the ongoing legal entanglements that have enwrapped him ever since and an additional contempt charge was revealed on Monday, dating back to an incident on June 7 where Beckerink allegedly arrived intoxicated at a Chicago clinic for a court-ordered drug test.
A disturbing police body camera video recorded in August 2024, which showed Beckerink’s altercation with the police and a distressed Tracey post her 911 call for help, played a part in the June hearing where a judge authorized its use at the trial. Even though Adam Beckerink has been sentenced for the domestic abuse case, he remains a suspect in his wife's death, as stated by an assistant Cook County state's attorney and as Tracey was discovered with severe injuries consistent with a fall from height, authorities have yet to conclude if her demise was the result of accident, suicide, or homicide.
