Amkor, a titan in semiconductor packaging and testing, is positioning itself to address some of the most sophisticated demands in semiconductor manufacturing on U.S. soil. This development, as reported by the Peoria, AZ Government website, aims to infuse the local economy with high-value engineering and manufacturing roles.
During a ceremony that aligned with Phoenix hosting SEMICON West, the nation’s premier semiconductor conference, Giel Rutten, Amkor's President and CEO, lauded the groundbreaking as a pivotal moment in their strategy for innovation and growth. The ceremony, buzzing with industry excitement, threw a spotlight on Arizona's mixture of talent, robust infrastructure, and a burgeoning industry presence, which have been determining factors in Amkor's commitment to expanding its operations. "We’re building a facility to meet our customers’ most advanced needs that will help shape the future of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States," Rutten told the attendees in a statement that cuts straight to the heart of the endeavor.
Peoria Mayor Jason Beck emphasized the impact of Amkor's facility in fortifying the country's vital semiconductor supply chain. With the creation of up to 3,000 high-calibre jobs in various domains, this project is anticipated to be a cornerstone for economic growth in the region. "This project will bring thousands of quality jobs and a multibillion-dollar investment to Peoria, all while strengthening our country’s critical semiconductor supply chain," Beck underscored, portraying the venture's significance beyond the immediate economic stimulus.
Peoria has been industriously preparing for this type of industrial and commercial influx, recently acquiring 834.5 acres for precisely such opportunities. Amkor is primed to utilize 104 acres of this land, demonstrating its commitment to augment domestic chip production at a time when global supply chains face heightened scrutiny and stress. With construction expected to see completion in mid-2027, and operations slated to commence early the year following, this marks a renewed stride towards technological self-reliance, according to the statements obtained by the Peoria, AZ Government website.
