According to an announcement by the City of Arlington, the upcoming fiscal year demands an additional $13.9 million to keep water flowing and sewers functioning, necessitating a water rate increase of 6.54% for minimum residential users and 7.94% for average residential users; these adjustments translate roughly to an additional $2.18 and $5.89 per month, respectively.
The budgetary pressures leading to these cost upticks are attributed to hikes in essential services and infrastructure such as a $1.7 million increase for raw water from the Tarrant Regional Water District, a substantial $7 million rise for wastewater treatment overseen by the Trinity River Authority and consequently an increase in debt service payments amounting to $2.7 million, and an incremental surge in electricity costs by $434,396.
