The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has pledged $50 million in scholarships to four of Atlanta’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The funding will support Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, and Spelman College over the next decade, targeting students close to completing their degrees who face financial challenges, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.
According to CBS 17, the scholarships are expected to assist about 10,000 students, helping them complete their academic programs. Fay Twersky, president of the foundation, described the grants as a significant investment in students’ education.
The initiative addresses gaps in funding for Pell Grant recipients who still face expenses that could affect their studies. Leaders of the participating HBCUs, including Dr. F. DuBois Bowman of Morehouse College, praised the foundation’s support for enabling students to focus on their academic progress.
