Officers responded to the street around 1:20 a.m. and discovered the victim suffering from the wound, though he remained conscious and alert as paramedics carried him to a nearby hospital.
Details remain scarce. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, which gathered its reporting from DeKalb County police, investigators have not released the victim's identity, have not said what led to the gunfire, and have not provided any details on potential suspects. The victim's current condition is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing.
A Street With A Troubled Recent History
Lancashire Circle sits in a stretch of unincorporated DeKalb County zoned 30083, home to multi-family properties including the 64-unit Jackson Brown Courts apartment complex at 1055 Lancashire Circle, according to a listing on Apartments.com. The block was already familiar to local investigators. Almost exactly a year earlier, in September 2025, a DeKalb County police officer shot and critically injured 64-year-old motorist Rodney Moore near Central Drive and Lancashire Circle during a traffic stop after discovering an active arrest warrant, per WSB-TV.
Tuesday's shooting is the latest in a run of gun violence that has touched DeKalb County this summer. Hoodline previously reported on a 51-year-old caretaker shot dead outside her father's home in late August, as well as a Hidden Creek Drive shooting in DeKalb County that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Devon Asquet, allegedly shot by 20-year-old Jared Asquet, and a late-July shooting on West Austin Road in which one person died and another was critically injured. An overnight wave of shootings on August 13 left two people dead and one injured, underscoring a pattern of late-summer violence across the county.
Countywide Numbers Tell A Mixed Story
The bigger picture in DeKalb County is more complicated than any single incident. The county's police department recorded 91 homicides in 2025, the first time the annual count dropped below 100 in several years, while maintaining a 76.9 percent homicide clearance rate, according to figures presented by DeKalb County government officials in March. The broader picture also includes non-fatal violence.
Statewide, the numbers paint a similarly stark backdrop. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting program found that a violent crime occurred somewhere in Georgia every 15 minutes and 44 seconds in 2024. If a suspect is eventually identified and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Georgia Code § 16-5-21 sets a sentencing range of 1 to 20 years in prison.
