At the recent Crime Is Toast breakfast, an event dedicated to the recognition of local law enforcement's courage and dedication, the Atlanta Police Foundation paid tribute to late DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose. CEOs and police chiefs from across the region, including DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Interim Police Chief Gregory Padrick, honored Rose's legacy and valor.
Officer Rose, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, was posthumously awarded with the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor, awards that underscore the gravity and bravery of his service. His spouse, Mrs. Rose, accepted these honors in a gathering that included a variety of metro Atlanta's law enforcement personnel and was reported by DeKalb County's official news release.
As noted in statements from both CEO Cochran-Johnson and Interim Chief Padrick, the ceremony not only celebrated Officer Rose's selflessness but also reinforced the region's commitment to strengthening public safety and supporting their officers. CEO Cochran-Johnson stated, "Officer Rose embodied the highest ideals of duty, courage, and community," as mentioned on the DeKalb County website. Her expressions of appreciation were directed towards both the Atlanta Police Foundation and regional partners who stood in solidarity with DeKalb County and its ideals.
Signifying this dedication, CEO Cochran-Johnson has announced the intention to establish a DeKalb County Police Foundation aimed at bolstering officer training, wellness, and community ties. This initiative reflects an enduring investment in the safety and well-being of both law enforcement agents and the public they serve. "The recognition of Officer Rose reminds us all of the risks our officers take each day to protect and serve," Interim Chief Padrick noted on DeKalb County, acknowledging the perpetual challenge and resolve inherent to policework.
