Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is preparing for a surge in travelers as the city hosts two of its largest annual events: the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. According to KVUE, airport officials expect more than 35,000 passengers to move through the terminals on peak travel days, particularly around October 6, the day before the Grand Prix, with elevated traffic continuing through the conclusion of ACL on October 12.

To accommodate the influx, continuous shuttle services will operate between parking lots and the terminal, though congestion is still anticipated in and around the airport. Officials have urged travelers to arrive at least two and a half hours before domestic flights and three hours ahead of international departures. As CBS Austin reports, additional staff will be on hand to assist passengers, manage crowd flow, and maintain efficiency at security checkpoints and boarding areas.

Complicating the busy travel window, airport construction projects remain ongoing as part of long-term improvements to expand capacity and enhance safety. While the work is not expected to obstruct passenger movement, travelers may encounter construction noise during nighttime hours, according to airport representatives.

Austin’s back-to-back events highlight the city’s growing role as a national entertainment and sports hub, drawing tens of thousands of visitors from across the country. Airport officials recommend passengers plan ahead, allowing extra time for parking, security screening, and potential traffic delays on nearby highways.

Despite the expected congestion, airport authorities emphasize that the upgrades currently underway will ultimately streamline operations and improve the traveler experience in future years—supporting Austin’s continued rise as both a premier destination and a major gateway for global events.
