The Berkeley community can breathe a bit easier this week after the arrest of two individuals linked to a chilling spate of home invasions and burglaries. The Berkeley Police Department took to social media to share the culmination of their investigative efforts that led to the apprehension of a convicted felon and his accomplice. The series of crimes occurred from September 17 to October 1, predominantly targeting women in their homes during the late night and early morning hours.
Berkeley police revealed that the main suspect broke into occupied homes, threatened residents, and demanded valuables, at one point even threatening to shoot a homeowner. His female accomplice was identified through ALPR technology near a stolen vehicle during a robbery. Though the crimes caused significant fear, no victims were physically harmed.
Detectives later connected multiple incidents to the pair, obtaining search warrants that led to the recovery of stolen property. On Thursday, a coordinated sting in Hayward ended when the male suspect rammed vehicles and nearly hit an officer before being caught after a short chase. His partner was arrested nearby without further incident.
