In the quiet of midnight, Bethel Park's serene South Park was disrupted by the sound of a vehicle erratically colliding with a gazebo, as the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company responded to an unusual call.
The incident, which occurred on Corrigan Drive, sparked emergency crews into action, and they discovered upon arrival that an SUV had mistakenly taken a walking path for a road, resulting in the vehicle smashing into the structure, WTAE reported, causing one of the gazebo's four supporting pillars to buckle and threatening the integrity of the quaint edifice.
Despite the potential for tragedy in such events, there was a silver lining as the Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company quickly intervened using a specialized rescue trailer to stabilize the gazebo and prevent further collapse, WPXI detailed.
The rescue efforts culminated in the driver being taken to the hospital; although amidst such chaos, Allegheny County Police confirmed that the driver sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
