In an effort to address the burgeoning issue of pet homelessness, the BISSELL Pet Foundation is once again spearheading its bi-annual "Empty the Shelters" event, aiming to connect shelter animals with forever homes. The foundation has partnered with an extensive network of 300 shelters across 38 states, including League City Animal Care, to provide would-be pet owners with the incentive of significantly reduced adoption fees from October 2-14, 2025.

During this event, adoption fees are slashed to $70 or less, with the intention to rapidly to reduce overcrowded shelters. League City Animal Care has taken the initiative a step further by offering no-cost adoptions for the duration of the event. According to a statement from the City of League City, "Right now, shelters across the country are going through a tough time—intakes are high, kennels are crowded, and pets are waiting." The initiative encourages community participation by emphasizing that every adoption not only saves a pet's life but also frees up valuable space for other animals in need.

'Empty the Shelters' is a major adoption event recognized nationwide for its success in placing pets in loving homes. Since its inception in 2016, over 355,000 pets have found families through the initiative. The event has substantial financial backing, which allows shelters to offer reduced fees, thereby easing the financial barrier for many seeking to adopt.

League City Animal Care, located at 755 West Walker Street in League City, TX, welcomes potential adopters during event hours: 11 am-7 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 11 am-5 pm on Saturdays, and 12 pm-5 pm on Sundays, while staying closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. BISSELL Pet Foundation acknowledges Cathy Bissell's foundational role since 2011 and notes the significance of partnering with organizations such as MetLife Pet Insurance to support these life-saving events. The importance of each adoption reverberates through the community, with the foundation's mission centering on giving every pet the chance to know a loving home.
