Bostonians are set to enjoy an array of sunny days ahead as temperatures gear up to embrace what looks like an extension of summer warmth. The latest local weather forecasts indicate that after a brisk Friday morning, the city will bask in low to mid-70s under clear skies, with slightly cooler temperatures expected on Cape Cod.
The upcoming weekend in Boston hints at an idyllic summer reprise, despite it being well into autumn. According to the National Weather Service, Boston is poised for sunny skies with highs nearing 81 degrees on Saturday and even tipping into the mid-80s by Sunday. Coastal communities, however, may experience somewhat milder conditions due the influence of sea breezes, settling into the mid to upper 70s. The National Weather Service reports a tranquil pattern with calm winds accompanying the gradual ascent in temperatures.
Moving into next week, Boston's weather will see a continuation of this sunny stretch. With calmer winds in the forecast and a slight uptick in humidity levels revealed by the National Weather Service, residents can anticipate more of the same pleasant conditions through at least Wednesday. Unfortunately, the hint of precipitation slated for midweek is not expected to provide much respite to the ongoing drought conditions.
An update from Tevin Wooten of NBC Boston suggests that although there's a chance for showers come Wednesday, we shouldn't expect a deluge. "This is a weak cold front that won’t have a lot of water or make much of an impact on our drought," Wooten explained. Residents hungry for rain might have to keep their rain dances going a bit longer, as the anticipated weather shift won't denote a significant change to Boston's current dry spell. NBC Boston notes that following the passage of this front, temperatures are expected to retreat to the low and mid-60s by week's end.
For those seeking the seasonal spectacle of autumnal color, the adjacent Northern New England region is peaking in fall foliage. Given the extensive drought's potential to shorten the duration of the display, a weekend road trip might be the best bet for leaf peepers. The Full Harvest Moon, illuminating the evening sky on Monday, will also be a sight worth marking on the calendar, according to NBC Boston. While the warm weather lingers, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to take advantage of the clear skies and the natural beauty on offer.
