Boston residents can look forward to a sunny Thursday with temperatures reaching a high near 62 degrees. The light north wind is expected to shift to the east in the afternoon, providing a mild and pleasant climate, as reported by the National Weather Service. The evening will continue this trend, offering mostly clear skies with lows around 48 degrees.
In the days to follow, the city is set to experience a rapid increase in temperature, eventually ascending into the 80s by the weekend. "The 70s return tomorrow, with 80s ahead this weekend," as reported by NBC Boston, indicating a shift towards warmer, semi-summery weather. This marks a stark contrast to the city's weather over the past year, which, except for the months of May and December, saw below-normal precipitation.
Looking at the broader context, the last twelve months have not even placed among the top 30 driest years for Boston with 37.96 inches of rain, as per data shared by NBC Boston. In comparison, three years ago, the city experienced a "water year" with only 29.43 inches of rain.
As the warmer weather stretches into early next week, Bostonians are encouraged to enjoy the foliage which is expected to peak this weekend in Northern New England. "The leaves will drop quickly, so it might be a good time for a road trip," NBC Boston suggests. Yet, the forecast also indicates that these sunny days will be followed by a high chance of showers by next Wednesday, with likely scattered showers driving temperatures back down into the 60s.
Amid the changing weather patterns, the city will also witness the arrival of the Harvest Moon on Monday night. This celestial event, being the first October Harvest Moon since 2020, is rather special as it typically occurs in September and is expected on average every three years, as noted by NBC Boston.
