Calling all local veterans – Boulder County is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate, support, and serve you. Set in the welcoming arms of the American Legion John Harold Buckley Post 32 in Longmont, the Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair is slated to serve as a hub for assistance and camaraderie. Coming up on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., this event promises an array of vendors, meals, and crucial services catered toward veterans, including those who are experiencing homelessness.
According to Boulder County's announcement, the resource fair will feature numerous nonprofit agencies, representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and supplies for homeless veterans. For attendees in need of transportation to the event, Mobility for All can provide aid upon contact at 720-564-2218 or through their email at [email protected].
In a commitment to "serve those who have served," as stated by Boulder County, the Boulder County Veteran Service Office offers pivotal support for U.S. military veterans and their dependents, extending such services as advising on, educating about, and assisting with the submission of VA disability benefits. These accredited officers are the bridge between veterans and a slew of local, state, federal, and nonprofit programs designed to support them. Information about Boulder County’s Veteran Services Officers (VSOs) and how they can assist can be found on their website.
Also featured at the fair will be Workforce Boulder County, which provides robust employment services to veterans and their spouses. These programs are specially tailored to help transitioning service members and eligible spouses integrate into the civilian workforce. It's noted that Priority of Service is accorded to veterans and eligible spouses, meaning they receive preference over non-covered persons when it comes to employment, training, and placement services under qualified job training programs. For those looking to explore these options, the Veterans' Employment Services webpage is the starting point.
Boulder County is taking the initiative to ensure veterans have access to the resources and support they need and deserve. From eager veterans seeking to transition into the workforce to those in need of sustenance and shelter, the upcoming Veterans Stand Down & Resource Fair stands as a testament to a community's reverence for its service members. Those with questions about the event are encouraged to reach out to Lindsay Neville via email at [email protected], and everyone is invited to help spread the word by sharing the event flyer.
