The City of Boulder is rolling out the welcome mat this weekend for residents to experience the refurbished splendor of Sawhill Ponds. On Sunday, Oct. 19, from the hours of 9:30 a.m. to noon, the community is invited to join the free Grand Re-Opening at 3400 75th St. Attendees can anticipate a morning lavished with interactive activities perfectly set for family enjoyment, ranging from fishing adventures to musical performances for children.

Designed to ameliorate the area’s natural framework, the recent improvements boast a new fishing pier intertwined with accessible trails and a nature discovery area primed for safe engagement. Introducing Family Fishing at 9:30 a.m., staff will educate attendees, young and old, about using fishing gear, line setting, and local fishing regulations. Although bringing personal fishing gear and bait is suggested, the city will supply a limited amount for beginners. According to the City of Boulder, "Adults fishing without children will need a valid Colorado fishing license."

Following the angling session, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be hosted at 10:30 a.m. to formally acknowledge the re-opening, with officials and collaborative partners in attendance. After the official proceedings, the stay is encouraged for families to engage in a 'Nature Play Date' accompanied by children’s musicians, Jeff and Paige. From 10:45 a.m. to noon, this segment is characterized by outdoor exploration in the Nature Discovery Zone and guided activities helmed by open space educators.

Infusing the event with inclusivity, Spanish interpretation will be available to bridge language barriers, ensuring a more diverse community participation. Clothes suited for the plein-air revelry and investigation are recommended for those attending. Dan Burke, Open Space and Mountain Parks Department Director, told the City of Boulder, “These enhancements reflect Boulder’s commitment to making our open space accessible, safe and welcoming for all.”
