As the search for the missing 11-year-old boy in Brownsville enters its third week, troubling details emerge about his disappearance. According to ABC7 New York, the boy's mother is now in custody, with police investigating the haunting possibility that the child has been missing for "weeks." The NYPD brought in a cadaver dog, which alerted officers to the presence of what could be human blood in the family's refrigerator, sparking a deeper probe pending a search warrant.
With no known records of the boy attending public school and the mother initially denying his existence to the Administration for Children's Services. "The safety and well-being of New York City's children is our top priority," an ACS spokesperson told ABC7 New York in a statement. Describing the boy as autistic, neighbors reported rarely seeing him and recalled the mother frequently yelling. One neighbor, Lay Givens, mentioned that her boyfriend has "lived here all his life" and only recalled seeing the kid a few times.
Compounding the situation, the NYPD has sealed the apartment with a sign indicating it is the "door of DOA premises." The boy was not found inside when the police conducted their search. The police extended their search to include the backyard and even a dumpster nearby. David Alcantara, a neighbor, expressed his dismay in a statement obtained by News 12 Long Island, saying, "It’s disturbing that people don’t take care of their kids. I can’t think of stuff like that because I love my kids."
Neighbors have noted a concerning silence surrounding the boy's whereabouts, with the mother, described as emotionally disturbed by law enforcement, taken to a hospital for evaluation after being taken into police custody, sources tell News 12 Long Island. As of today, no photo of the boy has been released by the police.
