In a decisive crackdown on illegal street racing and sideshow activities, the California Highway Patrol's Golden Gate Division, partnered with local enforcement agencies, swooped in on Antioch's chaotic night scene last Friday. The coordinated effort involved Contra Costa CHP, Antioch Police Department, and aerial support from the CHP Napa Air Unit. According to a social media post from the CHP Golden Gate Division, over 200 vehicles and a crowd exceeding 300 people were part of two large sideshows that took over public streets, jeopardizing public safety.
Acting upon intelligence, the law enforcement collective was able to corner some of the participants effectively. This action resulted in 22 vehicles apprehended actively spinning, drifting, and engaging in reckless behavior.
The operation's statistics are made clear in the CHP Golden Gate Division's post, detailing "61 traffic stops conducted," the issuance of "29 citations," and a total of "3 felony arrests" and "8 misdemeanor arrests."
