
Chandler is calling on its residents and local entrepreneurs to be part of a dialogue aimed at solving the region's housing puzzle, specifically when it comes to the "missing middle" – housing that bridges the gap between affordable and luxury. The city's free community event, ChandlerTalks: Dream BIG, build small, is set for Wednesday, Oct. 15, hosted at the Chandler Center for the Arts, doors are swinging open at 5:30 p.m. with the talks kicking off an hour after sunset, 6:30 p.m., to be precise.
Attendees will hear from a trifecta of experts in small-scale urban development including Jim Heid of UrbanGreen + CRAFT Development, Lorenzo Perez of Venue Projects, and Sin Heikwok of LoftsPhx Studio, "They will share insights on how building small can enhance communities, create more housing choices and support long-term sustainability," according to a statement obtained by the City of Chandler's announcement. This event isn't just talk; it's part of a broader effort by Chandler to steer the city's growth and improve residents' way of life through the General Plan Update, looking a decade ahead.
According to the City of Chandler, is extending an all-ages invitation for this event where dinner will be on the house, not only will the community get to learn about the General Plan, but they will also get a chance to voice their opinions on it, input which will be taken until Dec. 1. Chandler's principal planner, Lauren Schumann, reminds locals that "This is your city and your voice matters," as she encourages participation.
For those who can't make it to the event but still want to drop their two cents into the city planning piggy bank, Chandler's doors are open for feedback on the current draft of the General Plan Update, available at the Chandler General Plan website, to help "shape the policies and priorities that will define Chandler for the next generation," as Schumann told the City of Chandler.
