Charlotte County Natural Resources recognized winners of its first Sea Turtle Lighting Recognition Program. The initiative acknowledges those going above and beyond to follow the guidelines established by the Charlotte County Code and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Coastal Environmental Specialist Alexandria Grant said, "We wanted to do something to reward those who are setting an excellent example and showing true dedication to sea turtle conservation," Charlotte County reported. The efforts involve retrofitting lights to be less disruptive to sea turtles, which can become disoriented by bright or improperly shielded lighting on their way to the ocean.

The Waverly Restaurant and Bar received the award for commercial properties, and Pelican Landing Condominium was recognized in the residential condo category. Both properties are located within the designated lighting zone and were evaluated based on their inspection and compliance records with local environmental regulations.
