Charlotte County is looking for volunteers to serve in advisory roles across several service units. According to the county's announcement, multiple positions are available with terms running through October 31, 2028. Some openings require applicants to reside in specific areas, and certain positions also call for relevant professional experience.
The Barrier Island Fire Service Municipal Service Benefit Unit Advisory Board has an opening for a volunteer. Candidates must reside within the unit’s boundaries, and the term ends in 2026. The Charlotte County-Punta Gorda Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is also seeking volunteers for its Citizens' Advisory Committee, Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee, and the Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board. These positions involve reviewing transportation plans and projects and providing recommendations to the MPO board.
Prospective applicants for the MPO positions should apply by December 1, with new members scheduled to be elected on December 15. Applications for these and other municipal service benefit units (MSBUs) can be submitted by mail or email, as per the county’s announcement. The announcement also provides detailed information on each vacancy, including residency requirements and other eligibility criteria.
In addition to advisory positions, several street and drainage units, as well as waterway maintenance units, are seeking committee members. These include, among others, the Boca Grande, Deep Creek, and Greater Port Charlotte units. Members participate in decisions related to the maintenance and development of local infrastructure, with terms lasting up to three years.
