
Charlotte's community has been jarred by a recent act of violence that claimed a life in the Freedom Division area. According to a statement released by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a homicide investigation is currently underway following an incident on North Crigler Street.
Last night, October 14, at around 10:46 p.m., CMPD officers arrived on the scene, initially responding to a report of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon. They quickly found a male with a gunshot wound—a wound he would not ultimately survive. Despite the efforts of MEDIC, who rushed to transport the victim with life-threatening injuries to the hospital, the individual was pronounced deceased not long after.
Detectives from the CMPD's Homicide Unit immediately took up the investigation, and were soon joined by Crime Scene Search to thoroughly process the site for evidence. Their efforts were bolstered by support from both CMPD's Operations Command and Victim Services, underscoring the gravity of the tragedy that befell the community.
