As part of the efforts to shed light on domestic violence and offer strategies for intervention and support, Chatham Community Library is stepping up this October. Partnering with Second Bloom of Chatham, the library is inviting the public to engage with a critical conversation led by Janine Latus, author and advocate, whose work has touched many lives.
The event, set for October 18, aligns with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and promises to not only address the scourge of intimate partner abuse but also guide attendees on how to assist those mired in such predicaments. Latus, whose literary contribution includes the poignant New York Times bestseller "If I Am Missing Or Dead,” will take center stage in the Holmes Family Meeting Room from noon to 3:00 p.m. Titled "We Need to Talk: Compelling Strategies to Recognize Intimate Partner Abuse, Intervene, and Help Yourself and Others Live Healthy, Loving Lives,” her talk is designed to be as practical as it is life-affirming, guiding a path to healthier relationships, as noted by the Chatham County.
For those eager to delve into Latus’s narrative before the event, Chatham Community Library is offering a select number of her books for free, while supplies last, to be picked up at the library's front desk. This initiative ensures that attendees can come to the discussion informed and ready to engage with the material and the topic at hand. The distribution of these books reflects the library's commitment to accessible education and community support, especially on issues as vital as domestic violence.
The program is funded by Friends of the Chatham Community Library, confirming the community’s investment in tackling difficult conversations for the betterment of all. Prior to the discussion, attendees can mingle and share thoughts over light refreshments at a reception. The library's location at 197 NC Hwy 87 N in Pittsboro, NC, will be the gathering place for what is anticipated to be an enlightening and transformative Saturday afternoon. For more details on Latus's visit, the Chatham County website hosts all the information necessary for those interested.
