Residents of Chesterfield have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or unused prescription medications during the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Chesterfield Police Department announced on their Facebook page that they'll be participating in this event, which is set for Saturday. The collection points include Chesterfield City Hall at 690 Chesterfield Parkway West and Clarkson Valley City Hall at 15933 Clayton Road, where police will be present from 10 am to 2 pm.
For those planning to drop off medications, it's important to keep them in their original bottles, as the police department has emphasized. There's no need to remove any labeling — a move designed to ensure simplicity and privacy for participants. However, there are several items they cannot accept: needles, inhalers, liquids, supplements, or vitamins, and over-the-counter medications. According to the Chesterfield Police Department's social media post, these limitations are put in place to ensure safe disposal of substances.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to combat the misuse of prescription drugs. By providing a secure and convenient way to get rid of prescriptions, the DEA aims to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. The Take Back Day also serves as a reminder to review medicine cabinets and safely clear out drugs that could be potentially harmful if diverted or misused.
