Following a detailed investigation into a road rage incident that transpired last year on a Chicago expressway, Illinois State Police have apprehended 27-year-old James G. Sims. The altercation resulted in a shooting and subsequent crash on I-55, where the driver of an Audi was seriously injured after being shot multiple times. Sims, hailing from Chicago, was charged with one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 1 Felony, according to a report from the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1.
The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, when the situation rapidly escalated and shots were fired from an occupant of a Ford at the Audi's driver. After sustaining injuries, the victim crashed into a light pole and was quickly transported to a hospital for treatment. Troopers found the Ford abandoned nearby, and it was later confirmed to have been stolen prior to the shooting. No further information was available on the victim's current condition.
Investigators linked Sims to the crime after an expansive year-long pursuit, leading to his arrest on October 9, 2025. The efforts culminated without incident as Sims was taken into custody by the ISP Special Agents. The subsequent day, Sims faced the judicial process when Special Agents brought their findings to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and an official charge was filed against him. He is currently being held pending his initial court appearance.
