In a chilling sequence of events, Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood was the scene of a home invasion and attempted criminal sexual assault, prompting the Chicago Police Department (CPD) to issue an alert. According to ABC7 Chicago, the alert followed an incident where a man described by police as nearly naked attacked a 32-year-old woman after prying open a basement window of her home on the 2000 block of West Lunt Avenue early Friday morning.
Remarkably, the woman was able to fend off the attacker, ensuring her safety from what could have been a more harrowing ordeal. The CPD has also noted reports of attempted burglaries within the same block around the time of the attack. CBS Chicago stated that the suspect is a man between 19 and 25 with medium-length curly hair and a notably thin build, wearing a black hoodie with "USMC" emblazoned in gold and a light-colored hoodie wrapped around his waist paired with light-colored pants. An hour prior to this incident, in nearby Evanston, a criminal sexual assault attempt occurred, featuring a suspect bearing a similar description.
These harrowing incidents took place between 2:14 a.m. and 3 a.m. on October 10. The first incident saw a woman successfully force an unwelcome intruder out of her home after he entered through the basement window past 1:50 a.m. According to CBS News Chicago, the woman did not sustain injuries during the confrontation, but the suspect remains at large, sparking considerable concern within the community.
