A Bloomfield Township man is facing charges after the "severely decomposed" body of his wife was discovered on the couch in their home. Bloomfield Township Police performed a welfare check last Saturday, Sept. 27, leading them to the grim find of Ariane C. Grunewald Bluem, 57, reported Audacy. The authorities had been alerted to conduct the check around 12:15 p.m. on the 4600 block of Hedgewood Drive. As per the police, Grunewald Bluem's state of decay indicated she had been dead for an extended time.

During the incident, police found Grunewald Bluem's husband, 53-year-old Dirk Grunewald, upstairs with multiple knives surrounding him. The man refused to communicate with officers and did not comply with their commands. The Detroit News disclosed that crisis negotiators and members of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded to the scene as a precaution, later escorting Grunewald to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital for both medical and mental health evaluation. An autopsy was conducted by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office, but the exact cause of Mrs. Grunewald Bluem’s death remains inconclusive, and further examinations are pending.

The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office has since charged Grunewald with concealing the death of an individual, a felony. He was arraigned on Wednesday, Oct. 1, with the bond set at $250,000 cash. According to The Detroit News, Grunewald’s court date was scheduled at the 48th District Court in Bloomfield Hills.
