In the early hours of October 19, Citrus Heights Police Department officers were conducting routine patrols when an unassuming bicycle stop quickly escalated into the discovery of an illegally possessed firearm. A social media release from the department detailed the incident, explaining that it occurred around 1:30 AM near the intersection of Greenback Lane and Mariposa Avenue.
The cyclist, who law enforcement alleges has ties to a criminal street gang, was found to be carrying a loaded, 'ghost gun'—a homemade, unserialized handgun—a type of firearm that is often difficult to trace and illegal in many jurisdictions.
According to the Facebook post published by the Citrus Heights PD, not only did the suspect have a loaded weapon but also a "lengthy criminal history." The department's statement praised the vigilance of the officers, highlighting their efforts as key to potentially prevent to further criminal activity in the neighbourhood.
