Residents of Cleveland were instructed to stay indoors with windows closed as fire crews responded to an oil well fire today near Peach Avenue and Nevelle Street. According to KHOU, the shelter-in-place order was lifted at 2 p.m. after the fire was brought under control.
The Cleveland Fire Department used foam to create a vapor barrier and contain the blaze. Video footage shared on Facebook showed flames visible from a distance. An alert urged residents and drivers to avoid the area, according to a statement obtained by Click2Houston.
The cause of the fire, which occurred near a police station, has not yet been released. No injuries were reported. A resident from nearby Azalea Terrace told KHOU that they received an alert to remain indoors and keep windows closed.
Fire crews will continue to monitor the site. Officials have not yet provided details about potential environmental or health impacts. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
