After an extensive month-long investigation into a homicide that rocked the Coachella community, law enforcement officials have made a decisive breakthrough. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit, together with the Riverside District Attorney’s Office Gang Impact Team and the Riverside Sheriff’s Coachella Community Action Team, has confirmed the arrest of 59-year-old Rafael Moreno. Moreno, a Coachella resident, was taken into custody in connection with the death of Enrique Arrieta, according to an update provided by the Riverside Sheriff’s Department.
On the morning of September 21st, Thermal Sheriff’s Station deputies had responded to a report of an assault at the corner of Calle Limon and Genoa Street. Upon arriving, they discovered Arrieta lying on the ground with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, as per the initial incident report. Despite the immediate attempts to save his life, Arrieta, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. While the investigation was in its preliminary stages, no arrests were made immediately following the discovery of Arrieta's body.
The breakthrough came on October 22nd when Moreno was located near a residence on Nile Lane. The culmination of diligent investigative work led to Moreno's arrest and subsequent booking into the Robert Presley Detention Center on murder charges. The authorities have not indicated a search for additional suspects, suggesting a belief that the key figure in this tragedy is now in custody. "This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available at this time," the sheriff's department spokesperson stated in a briefing.
For those closely following the case, Investigator Adams of the Central Homicide Unit remains the point of contact. The community has been urged to step forward with any information that may further the investigation, driving home law enforcement's commitment to see justice served thoroughly.
