In a statement that speaks volumes about the state's dedication to strategic growth and affordable living, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) has announced an impressive track record for local government compliance with state law, according to an announcement yesterday. Jurisdictions across Colorado are aligning with legislation aimed at fostering communities that are both accessible and sustainable.
The legislation in question is part of a concerted effort to mitigate Colorado’s housing crisis and includes a variety of strategic growth laws spanning transit-oriented development to the reduction of unnecessary regulatory barriers, while Governor Jared Polis commended the initiative and the local leaders who have not just met but exceeded these state mandates thus showcasing the commitment of our state’s cities and counties to create more inclusive living options, as evidenced by the vast number of Colorado Springs, Boulder, and Denver toally embracing the spirit of these laws, and acting on it well ahead of the deadlines set forth.
DOLA's Executive Director Maria De Cambra, in a statement obtained by Colorado Governor's Office, hailed the local governments for their initiatives that are set to shape Colorado's housing panorama for generations, saying, "We are seeing local governments, like Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Longmont, Wheat Ridge, Larimer County and Fort Collins to name a few, implement these strategic growth laws at a high level, which showcases the sheer amount of work already done by these communities to build more housing for Coloradans."
