Two young men were detained following a string of vehicle break-ins reported late in September in Columbus, Ohio, as confirmed by the Columbus Division of Police on their social media pages. The incidents occurred in two different neighborhoods within a close time frame. The suspects were allegedly caught in the act of going through cars and stealing items.
According to the Columbus Division of Police's Facebook post, the first call was received on Sunday, September 28, at approximately 11:46 p.m., reporting two male suspects with ski masks and black clothing tampering with vehicles on the 1000 block of Viewpointe Dr. A similar complaint was made, just half an hour later, regarding two similarly described individuals on the 4000 block of Nipigon Drive.
Police managed to identify a vehicle—a blacked-out Hyundai—leaving the area of Nipigon Drive shortly after the second call. Conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Parsons Ave. and Rathmell Rd., officers found two individuals matching the suspect descriptions. They were identified as 18-year-old Jayden Banks and a 17-year-old juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to legal protections for minors.
Within the suspect's car, officers discovered two wallets containing personal identification and credit cards belonging to the victims of the thefts. "Two wallets were found on the passenger floorboard of the Hyundai containing the identification and credit cards of two victims," the Columbus Division of Police's social media update stated. Following the discovery, Banks and the juvenile were charged with Receiving Stolen Property, as authorities continue to examine the full extent of their activities in the area.
