Visitors to the Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands may need to factor in some extra time for parking and navigation starting November 3, as Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) kicks off the next phase of construction for the Green Cay Phase II project. According to information published by Palm Beach County, this work will include laying a water pipeline across Hagen Ranch Road and temporarily modifying the layout of the nature center's parking lot.
Part of the parking lot reconfiguration will see the southern end of the parking area being temporarily out of commission starting mid-October, stretching on for several weeks. "Work will be conducted during the day, Monday through Friday," says the county's announcement, with personnel and signage in place to guide the flow of both vehicles and pedestrians. The nature center itself will maintain normal opening hours during the construction.
Within, the complication of the parking situation has not shaken the continued operation of Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands. All programming, managed by Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, will persist unaffected by the stirrings of excavators and the silent march of progress that now sits, temporarily incongruent, with the soft hum of wildlife in the wetlands.
The larger concern for traffic extends beyond the confines of the nature center. "Beginning in early November, pipeline work will be conducted during the day, Monday through Friday," and will prompt lane disruptions on Hagen Ranch Rd. between Lake Ida Rd. and Flavor Pict Rd. Residents and commuters will be channeled through a single-lane park exit/entrance, and right turns only will be permitted when exiting the Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands. Motorists are advised to add some buffer to their travel time, as per the county's announcement.
While the construction spells temporary inconvenience, PBCWUD is calling for residents' cooperation during the implementation of the Green Cay Phase II project, which is expected to culminate in late 2026. Concerned citizens can raise their questions or get further information by contacting the utilities department's administrative offices during business hours or the after-hours number for urgent matters.
