In Jacksonville, the cycle of crime rounds another familiar bend with the arrest of 41-year-old Anthony Smokes, a convicted felon who finds himself again under the law's spotlight. After receiving a tip, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) rolled up to Smokes' Tamaya Boulevard address, a spot where Beach meets Kernan, to serve a warrant that snowballed into more serious charges.

Smokes, who was wanted on felony charges, was taken into custody from his apartment, and what JSO found inside was enough to prompt a warrant for a deeper search. According to a JSO report, the investigators discovered a cache of drugs: 613.7 grams of Fentanyl, serious for an opioid that can kill in micrograms; 5,115.84 grams of methamphetamine; 244.8 grams of powder cocaine; 53.5 grams of crack cocaine, and a seemingly gentle guest in this company, 153.5 grams of Marijuana. A pistol and nearly $45K in loose cash rounded out the findings.

Smokes has a long history with law enforcement, with nearly two dozen prior arrests. He is now facing multiple criminal charges, which could increase any existing sentences from previous cases.

Authorities found a large quantity of narcotics, including enough fentanyl for over 300,000 doses. Smokes is currently in custody as his case proceeds through the legal system.
