A bicyclist is fighting for their life following a severe hit-and-run incident in Columbus's Hilltop area. The Columbus Division of Police reports that the cyclist was struck by an SUV early this morning, around 1:30 a.m. The event occurred as the bicyclist traveled west on Sullivant Avenue towards Wedgewood Drive and was hit by a blue SUV, according to WBNS.
The individual was ejected from the bike and thrown onto the sidewalk, sustaining critical injuries. After the incident, the SUV left the scene without stopping and continued west on Sullivant Avenue. The victim was then taken to Grant Medical Center, as stated in the Columbus Police Department records obtained by NBC4i.
Concurrently, another report from ABC6 confirms that the hit-and-run event is under investigation by Columbus police, who are actively looking for the vehicle involved. The same report indicates that following the accident, the victim was rushed to Riverside Hospital rather than Grant Medical Center, highlighting a discrepancy in the initial care facility reported.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the collision to come forward. Columbus police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers are accepting tips, which can be submitted anonymously through a hotline at 800-222-TIPS (8477). The identity of a cyclist has not yet been released, and details of their current condition remain scarce as the police continue to piece together the circumstances of this grave incident.
