A Davenport woman, Latanya Rowe, was arrested on Monday after boarding a Polk County school bus and yelling at a student and the bus driver. The 48-year-old confronted a student over a fight last Friday involving her son and daughter. The incident caused the bus to be delayed by nearly an hour, WFLA reported.
Authorities said the confrontation resulted from an incident last Friday, in which Rowe's children were identified as the aggressors in a fight. Rowe, however, accused the victim of harming her children. Sheriff Grady Judd told FOX 13 News, "The irony of this situation is that this woman's two children were found to be the aggressors in a fight that took place on Friday, yet she was screaming at the victim and accusing the victim of hurting her kids." The student, who had faced a week of bullying and racial slurs from Rowe's son, had tried to resolve the issue directly with Rowe's children before the conflict turned physical.
Rowe's arrest did not end her disruption. Following the bus incident, deputies went to her home, and she told them through her Ring camera that she was at Davenport High School. School resource deputies located Rowe and her daughter causing a disturbance at the school's front office, according to WTSP. The situation escalated when Rowe's daughter refused to move away from the arresting officers and stated that she wanted to be arrested. Both were taken into custody, with the daughter also violating the Halo law, which requires a buffer zone around officers on duty.
The student's parents chose not to press charges. Rowe faces charges including disruption of a school function, trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, and she was released after posting a $1,750 bond.
