Kailua locals and visitors, mark your calendars and plan your routes accordingly. The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Design and Construction (DDC) has announced additional daytime work for the sewer connection project at Kailua Beach Park near the Ocean Safety District Operations Base Station. The necessary daytime construction will take place on Tuesday, October 14, and Wednesday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to the limited availability of construction materials.
Parking will be restricted in the Lanikai area during daytime hours to minimize traffic issues. The restrictions will mirror those typically seen on holiday weekends, with no parking allowed while the work is in progress. Despite this inconvenience, the City aims to complete the DDC sewer project by Friday, October 24, dependent on weather conditions and any unforeseen events. Motorists should expect possible delays, and they are advised to be cautious when navigating the construction zone, adhering to signs and directions from Special Duty Police Officers, as reported by the City and County of Honolulu.
The ongoing improvements are part of a broader effort to connect the new Ocean Safety operations base to the city sewer system. The work includes demolishing and removing existing road surfaces, installing a new sewer lateral, and restoring the roadway. Night work will continue Sunday through Friday, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., excluding holidays, along with a single-lane closure that will persist during both day and night work sessions, according to the City and County of Honolulu.
The Department of Design and Construction has shared appreciation for the community’s patience as the essential work progresses. Anyone with questions or comments is encouraged to contact the DDC directly at (808) 768-8400. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a more efficient and updated system upon the project's completion, as per the City and County of Honolulu.
