An 11-year-old from Daytona Beach found himself in police custody after making a threatening statement on TikTok towards Campbell Middle School. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, it was an FBI tip that led local enforcement to a comment on the social media platform, wherein the young boy menacingly mentioned a plan to attack his school and named certain staff members.
Deputies were dispatched to the boy's residence, determining upon arriving that the child did not have access to weapons. Despite lacking the means to carry out the threat, the grave nature of the statement prompted his arrest. "The boy was transported to the Family Resource Center for processing," the Volusia County Sheriff's Office shared in a statement obtained by WFTV.
Following the arrest, communicated through the official channels, the dialogue has shifted to the role social media plays in these matters. According to a report by WESH, "When deputies responded to the boy's house, they determined that he did not have access to any weapons."
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has yet to release further details regarding the ongoing investigation or the legal proceedings concerning the young student involved.
